Screenplay original working title ' landfall '. Draft still in Development.
" Landfall 2122 "
A screen play about life, love, adventure homesteading another planet in the future.
Based on my belief that certain technologies and states of mind will exist in the future.
Science as Magic.
Suggestive scenes. All my original music.
Sun in the distance, planet in the foreground to the left. A lot of blue green, cloud, like earth but different land masses.
ZOOM TO MEDIUM:
The planet slowly enlargens until a spacecraft is seen in orbit on the left of the planet.
The spacecraft is spherical in shape, no discernible windows.
A small craft is seen approaching the ship, spherical but flatter. As it reaches the ship it passes directly through the hull as if melding into
the ship itself.
Zoom in as if melding into the hull and appearing within a hanger like room containing spherical craft along with a number of others.
Four people in casual, loose colorful clothing, like beach pants and hawaii shirts. are standing near the craft when two people seem to just walk out of it.
Greetings and questions.
Room on ship, control panel, scene on wall. Scenic, river, mountains, snow on top, forests, fields.
The scene slowly moves in to a scene of a small spherical craft coming into the scene from the right and landing softly near the river.
ZOOM IN: MEDIUM
A few moments later a man and woman emerge seamlessly from the craft. Loose colourful clothing both with small backpacks.
ZOOM IN: CLOSE
The man with the woman on his right, standing near a river, a small clearing near by, mountains to the left.
Well, shall we?
Willow takes off her backpack, reaches in and takes out a small blue ball. She tosses it to the small clearing.
A transparent dome appears with a light green tinge. A small table, counter, chairs and a bed can be seen materializing within.
We've got about half an hour, come on.
Bob starts to run up stream along the creek. Willow runs after.
PAN TO LEFT. MEDIUM
Bob and Willow are running upstream, jumping from shore to rock, rock to rock.
Startled, some 'birds' fly out of the nearby trees. Ahead is a large beaver size animal drinking from the stream. It looks up and scurries off.
Look a 'fish'! It jumped right over there.
Bob, ahead, spinning on one foot to look, turns and falls in the water. Willow is laughing.
Bob's head emerges from the water laughing his head off.
I love it.
He stands and walks to the shore. Lays down.
Damn that felt good.
Willow runs over and sits down beside Bob.
It is so beautiful.
Did you see that animal, it sort of looked like a beaver?
The tail had fur though.
It's sure going to be fun (checking them out) learning about everything. Have you noticed everythings a wonder?
That fish jumped right out of the water just like on earth. Not much different. It was so colourful, like a rainbow.
The q-ball should have it, I'll check it out when we get back.
I noticed some berries getting out of the water, lets check them out?
Bob stands up and starts walking towards the bushs, Willow follows.
They sort of look like blue berries, but bigger. Me first.
Willow and Bob both pick some berries as Willow tentatively takes a bite from one.
Hmmmm, good, like grapes.
Bob places one in his mouth and nods while mouthing.
nmmmm nmmmmm. I wonder if we can make some wine. I'll give it a shot. Maybe we can celebrate in a week or two.
Bob runs over to the creek opens his backpack and graps some bags. He and Willow begin picking and eating. The bags are full before they have
Bob runs over grabs his backpack, puts it on and floats up to head height. Willow flys over to Bob.
Let's check out the mountain.
They begin flying high speed towards the mountain behind their campsite. Like swallows they are flying in formation taking cues from each, other. Chasing,
playing, maneuvering. Rolls, banks, coming to a stop just above the snow at the top of the mountain. Holding hands they are looking down into the
Snow looks good. We're going to have to make some skis and boots pretty quick, I'll be able to get some good turns in. I want to go skiing.
We'll have to check out the lake tomorrow. We'll need some kayaks and a sail for them. It'll take about a week unless we get the ship to do it.
We have all summer, we can play as much as we want. Maybe I'll make one. We'll need to scout out the best location for a cabin too.
Let's check out the 'tent'.
Willow takes off towards the creek. Bob smiles and then quickly catches up. They swoop down and land softly by the transparent dome tent.
Willow is looking at the 'tent' as Bob walks up behind her nuzzles her ear and places his hands around her touching lightly on the underside of her
Our first night at home. I'll get some wood.
The 'tent' has a greenish tint to it and has a bed, floating against the wall, a counter/console, a table with two chairs, a loveseat and two large cabinets.
I'll check on things.
Bob lets go, takes off his back pack reaches in, gives Willow his 'grapes' and pulls out a cylindar about 7 inches long. He walks off into the bush.
Willow walks toward the 'tent' and walks seamlessly inside. She can be seen going to the console, the blue ball sitting in a concave cavity on top. As she
approaches a screen appears in front and on top of the console. The beautiful face of a strawberry blond with freckles can be seen on the screen.
Hey Willow, how are we doing?
Fine, are you going to be down tonight we're having a fire?
We'll be there in about half an hour.
Check out the 'fish' we saw, it is so colorful, like a raibow trout but with real color.
The screen changes to a scene from Willows POV at the time she saw it.
Cool. I can't wait. I'll bring some marshmallows, chocolate and graham wafers.
See you later.
The screen vanishes as she turns away towards the large bed. It is floating about a foot off the ground. She approaches one of the cabinets,
the door opens to some colorful pillows and blankets. She makes the bed.
She approaches the other cabinet reaches into her backpack, pulls out a small container and the two bags of 'grapes', the door opens, she
places them inside and the door closes.
As she turns to look at the table knowing it needs a vase and flowers she hears a 'voice' from the cabinet say .
It'll be ready in half an hour.
Willow walks outside and looks for flowers, picking a colorful bunch and brings them back to the tent, goes inside, takes the vase, pours some water from her flask and places the
flowers in the vase on the table.
Bob finds some dry deadfall. He walks over and manipulates the cylinder as if it has a blade on it. The deadfall is sliced and split in sections. He puts the cylinder away, picks up
the deadfall and walks back to camp making several trips.
Back at camp he clears a small area and then places rocks from the stream for a firepit. Going back to the bush he comes back with two large logs for sitting
beside him, carried with a small sling, as if floating. Placing them by the fire.
Breaking off some dry lower branches from trees nearby he uses them for kindling, stacking it in the firepit.
Turning he walks towards the tent just as Willow is coming out.
Jane will be here in about 20 minutes.
I wonder how some of the others are doing, maybe Nic and Delia can drop by for the fire.
Shot of Nic and Shania's camp. Their Q-ball says,
Bob's wondering if you, Shania and Delia want to come over for a fire tonight.
Hey Bob, what time?
Oh, how about in an hour?
See you then.
We can organize a landfall festival. I found some fruit we can make wine from.
Willow & SHANIA
Turning to Bob Willow says
Maybe Paul, Ted, Sylvia and Joanne can come too.
Well I know Paul, Linda, Chris and Eleanor will want to.
Bob pulls out his cylindar points it at the kindling and a fire starts. He place more logs on top. Soon it is a roaring fire. He grabs a small knife from
his back pack, goes to the bush and cuts a few branchs for fire sticks and places them near the logs.
Hearing a sound of rushing wind he looks up and notices a craft approaching and settling down near the creek. Emerging are Jane and Hanna.
Did you bring the hotdogs and buns?
Yup, some Cando beer too.
Boy, that's going to taste good.
I brought my Great Grampa's guitar to.
Hey, we can sing 'Pollon on a Bumble Bee'.
People begin showing up for the fire. Popping in at the same spot at different intervals. Like they are walking out of nothing.
After fire, Bob says,
I'm beat. I'm heading in.
Jane is on Bob's left, after about 15 minutes, Willow comes into the 'tent' and crawls into bed on the right of Bob and cuddles up,
head on his right shoulder.
Long shot of valley with tent just right of centre.
Bob is waking, a girl on on side and two on another, one with her head to the foot of the bed.
Bob notices that Hanna had crawled in some time in the evening. He touches her foot. Her eye's open.
What a beautiful way to wake up.
Bob is on a hike by himself one day and encounters a large feline type animal. The size of a cougar on earth, but the looks of a bobcat. It is
very friendly. Bob shuts off the quantum shield and allows the 'cat' to come close.
It has long white fur with slight silver tint to the ends, a stubby tail and large paws, fangs like a normal cat. Sniffing it cautiously approachs and then rubs itself around
Bob's legs. Bob moves his machette, an heirloom, to his left hand, reachs down and strokes the 'cats' right side and neck.
It humms. mmmmhmmmmmmhm
Hi there. Are you ever friendly. Where do you live?
The cat rubs around his legs twice more before lying down in front of him just watching.
Bob takes off his backpack, lays down his machette, sits down, takes out a water bottle and has a drink. After a few moments he opens a container of beef jerky and
begins chewing. He can see the cat's eyes focus and his nostrils widening, sniffing. Taking a piece he tosses it towards the 'cat'. The cat
moves very fast and catchs the beef before it hits the ground, then lies down again in spot chewing.
As the cat finishes Bob throws another a bit higher and further away and again the cat moves very fast, catching the beef still high in the air. Again, it
lies down in spot chewing.
Getting up, putting on his back pack, grabbing his machette Bob starts to walk back to camp.
See you later.
Just as he begins walking away the cat appears beside him on the right, walking with him.
Half an hour later he walks into camp with the cat still along side. Jane sees him coming.
Cool! a 'cat', I watched one in our study for a while. It'll have a family near by.
It's OK, she's friendly. I think I'm going to call her Grace. Is the boat ready yet?
Yes, it should be on the beach in about an hour.
You coming. Give us a minute, Willow and Bree are having a bath.
OK, I'm going to check on the wine, see if it's ready.
Bob walks into the tent and walks over to a small table where a large 5 gallon tank is sitting. He places a cup under the tap and pours some
and takes a drink.
Damn that's good.
Grabbing a juice container he fills it with wine and places it in his backpack. He walks outside.
It's ready, I'm bringing some with me.
Jane is just putting on her backpack as Willow and Bree come around the corner from the bath house ready to go. Bob can smell the soap they used.
You sure smell good.
Willow, Bree and Jane lift off and start flying towards the lake. Bob watches for a moment smiling.
I love it.
Bob lifts off and zooms towards the girls.
Aden and Tilly are watching them on screen.
The 'cat' develops a strong attachment to Bob and walks beside him when they are together. Protecting and warning against other predators.
It turns out to be female and loves the girls. They and Bob find out she is highly intelligent.
She is not a pet.
